Hewitsons and HCR merging to create £65m legal powerhouse

Hewitsons is set to merge with Harrison Clark Rickerbys to create a combined law firm of around 780 people and a £65 million turnover.

HCR today reveals that it is in the advanced stages of merger talks with  Hewitsons which will give it access to business in Northampton and Milton Keynes. Both firms are already established in Cambridge.

Inger Anson, who will head the Cambridge office, said: “Setting up in a crowded legal market in 2018 our intention was always to offer something new and fresh reflecting the unmet needs of the Cambridge market.

“This merger is an exciting next step in our mission to offer the market something different and in Hewitsons we have a partner who shares our ethos and passion for people. This merger will create a dynamic new team able to offer a genuine breadth and depth of expertise to our clients and opportunities for our staff.”

The merger is expected to complete by the end of May, resulting in a firm of approximately 780 people and £65m turnover. The combined Cambridge teams will move into new premises and details are expected soon; the Hewitsons London team will move into HCR’s office at 62 Cornhill, in the heart of the City.

Harrison Clark Rickerbys has more than 550 staff and partners based at offices in Cambridge, London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Hereford, Thames Valley, Worcester and the Wye Valley, who provide a complete spectrum of legal services to both business and private clients, regionally and nationwide.
